ThreeStrand College of Evangelism

where knowledge and practice meet

Then I said, "I will not make mention of Him, Nor speak anymore in His name." But His word was in my heart like a burning fire Shut up in my bones; I was weary of holding it back, And I could not.
Jer 20:9 NKJV

“Are any of these obstructions holding you back from preaching the Gospel?”

ThreeStrand College of Evangelism’s desire is to return Preacher training to the Local Church. Our purpose is not to denigrate other colleges that do not share this vision. Rather, our goal is to model our program as closely to the one contained in the New Testament as possible. Should all of our modern preacher training institutions burn down, and in the rubble was found a copy of the Scripture—our only suitable guide in which to rebuild—would those restored institutions resemble what came before? Will one find third-party instruction centers whose leaders answer to no local Church authority? What of accreditation conformity? Degree programs? A letter grading system? Tuition?? None of these secular concepts are found within the Word. Often, the restoration of the Church to the New Testament pattern is spoken of—when do we begin the conversation of restoring the pattern of the training of men for ministry? At TCE, we strive to fulfill that discipleship model. As an arm of the Laurel Chapel Christian Church in London, KY, we will prepare you to preach the Gospel as you serve in the local Church. What’s the difference? It is the difference in learning and doing. At TCE, you will do ministry as you study. I can learn about riding a bike, but—at some point—I have to get on; it’s the application of knowledge to practice.

“Disciples making disciples; Evangelists making Evangelists”

If one decides to become a plumber, he might read a book on plumbing. Or enroll in a trade school that offers a plumbing program. Better yet, the finest way to learn plumbing is to study under a master plumber on the jobsite. At TCE, all instructors are Evangelists serving in the local Church. Much in the mold of Alexander Campbell’s Buffalo Seminary, the student will take on the equivalent of an apprenticeship. Pass or fail is based on the opinion of the educator, not a letter grade. Sure, exams are required and graded, but the final judgment of a student’s promotion is based on the subjective evaluation of the instructor. If you’re lazy or don’t love people, we don’t care how smart you are; you will not pass. We are interested in nothing less than providing quality disciples to the Churches.

“Eliminate the debt load by utilizing the local Church.”

How much tuition did Jesus charge his disciples for the greatest education known in the history of training preachers? The same amount Paul charged Timothy and Titus—None. Because TCE is based out of the local Church, we do not incur the debt load of maintaining a staff nor a campus. This allows us to operate tuition free due to the diligence of our educators and their desire to train up men at no cost. The student is responsible for his livelihood, books, and supplies—that and nothing else. Most books are available electronically or can be borrowed. The cost for an education is as close to zero as possible. We encourage our students to work as they study and help them to find jobs that will cooperate with their Church and school schedules. Many of Christ’s disciples fished and Paul made tents; hard work is not something to be avoided for one considering a life of service.

“I have to get a degree, right?"

What degree did Apollos hold, an Associate or Bachelor? Did Timothy need a Master’s Degree to work in Ephesus? “Yeah, but I will need a degree to get a job!” Not necessarily—although a degree is a fine accomplishment, word of mouth is likely a better help. Conservative Churches probably won’t hire from a liberal school no matter the quality of the degree, and vice versa. Yet, a recommendation from respected men in the field may result in the applicant’s immediate hiring. This endorsement is what we offer at TCE.

IRON SHARPENS IRON.

A mentor can pass on his strength and—inevitably—his weakness. Therefore, TCE deems it essential that many Evangelists share in the work of training up the next generation; each man bringing his skillset to bear for the betterment of the student while the other men overshadow any individual vulnerability.

Without consultation, plans are frustrated, But with many counselors they succeed.
Pro 15:22 NASB95

When knowledge and practice are one, wisdom is accomplished; confidence follows. TCE’s mission is to put competent, capable, confident men into the preaching ministry.
